Diabetes research at EXODIAB top ranked

The Strategic Research Area EXODIAB, Excellence in Diabetes research in Sweden, was established in 2010 and is coordinated from Lund University Diabetes Centre in collaboration with Uppsala University. International independent evaluators top ranked EXODIAB at the five-year evaluation in April 2015, EXODIAB being the best research environment in Sweden among the 43 research environments. The evaluation report, found at the Swedish Research CouncilĀ“s website, show that EXODIAB has received the highest grade in all categories: research output, utilisation and benefits, collaboration, education and management.

The Swedish Government launched the Strategic Research Areas to promote research of the highest international standard, combined with the ambition of improved societal impact through innovation and the ambition to develop higher education. EXODIAB has for instance in collaboration with researchers at Uppsala University established the Human Tissue Laboratory to enable translational studies embracing clinical studies as well as molecular mechanisms for therapies. EXODIAB has also led the work of establishing industrial partners in order to systematically address challenges in diabetes care.
